Royal Albert Hall, 150 Years

Book Design

Background: The Royal Albert Hall in London’s South Kensington is one of the UK’s most treasured and distinctive buildings and is held in trust for the nation. The Hall was opened by Queen Victoria in 1871 and was to celebrate it’s 150th year in 2021. Ebury Press, an imprint of Penguin Random House, put forward a proposal for a fitting way to celebrate this monumental milestone. This book design formed part of that proposal.

Our solution: An upmarket design that truly celebrates the long-standing tradition and glory of this great British institution. A classic old style serif typeface (Perpetua Titling), with modified non-aligning figures forms the main title, with the sub-title in a complimentary justified sans serif – all arranged in a symmetrical layout. The colour scheme of gold lettering on a vibrant red background completes the classical look.
